Inspiring Tomorrow’s Talents at “Future Day”

A fundamental part of our vision here at the SENSOTERIC project is not only pushing the boundaries of technological research but also training and inspiring young talents. We strongly believe that science needs to step out of the labs to engage with the community, which is why outreach activities are so close to our hearts.

A few months ago, we had the pleasure of putting this vision into practice by participating in the “Future Day” (Zukunftstag 2026) organized by the Emil-Fischer-Gymnasium in Schwarzheide.

Our very own Jens Trommer had the opportunity to spend an intense and stimulating hour with a group of 15 boys and girls (from grades 9-12), guiding them on a journey to discover the fascinating world of microelectronics.

Instead of a traditional lecture, the session turned into an open dialogue, starting with questions that touch on our everyday lives:

  • Where is the physics hidden in a smartphone?
  • What exactly is a semiconductor, and are they the same as microchips?
  • What are the processors and sensors doing?
  • Where are microchips produced?
  • And especially… why is it fun to work in the field of microelectronics?

Together with the students, we revealed how incredibly small current transistors actually are. But we didn’t stop at the purely technical aspects: we discussed why semiconductor foundries are so expensive and what they bring to our industrial base and long-term technological independence.

The energy, curiosity, and questions from the students made the event a huge success for us. It was a valuable moment of exchange that confirmed the importance of bringing SENSOTERIC’s core topics out there to the younger generation.

The success of this event calls for a repetition. On this note: if you know of a higher education institution near Dresden and are interested in an interactive introduction to microelectronics, please don’t hesitate to let us know!

Let’s keep sparking curiosity for the technology of the future.
