Great Team – Great Achievements

We have always been incredibly proud, that in SENSOTERIC we could put together an amazing team of scientists both experienced and at the beginning of their careers. For the first ones, SENSOTERIC was the perfect occasion to challenge their consolidated research with a disruptive goal and using new technologies. Unlike a car’s one, the engine of research runs well only when it is powered with always different fuels. SENSOTERIC’s ideas have been a novel, green propellant for all of us involved in the project. Seeing mentors challenging themselves with novel topics is the greatest inspiration for the younger ones, and professionally growing the researchers of the next decades is a major commitment for SENSOTERIC. For these reasons we are proud that two of our PIs, representing exactly these two categories of scientists, Prof. Sandro Carrara and Giulio Galderisi, were awarded during the first year of SENSOTERIC by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE).

Sandro Carrara is an IEEE Fellow for his outstanding record of accomplishments in the field of design of nanoscale biological CMOS sensors. He is also a Professor of the EPFL in Lausanne (Switzerland), and head of the Bio/CMOS Interfaces Laboratory (BCI). For SENSOTERIC, Sandro leads WP6: “Sensor Use-Case Demonstration”. During the first year of SENSOTERIC he was awarded by the IEEE Sensors Journal for his “Outstanding Leadership and Dedication as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Sensors Journal”.

Giulio Galderisi is a Scientist at NaMLab gGmbH, working since 2020 in the Emerging Reconfigurable Devices Group led by Dr.-Ing. Jens Trommer, and a PhD candidate at the Technical University of Dresden under the supervision of Prof. Thomas Mikolajick. His research focuses on the fabrication, characterization and simulation of Reconfigurable Field Effect Transistors (RFETs) for Hardware Security applications. For SENSOTERIC, Giulio leads WP7: “Dissemination and Exploitation”. During the first year of SENSOTERIC he was awarded by the IEEE Electron Devices Society with the “PhD Student Fellowship” for the “Demonstration of his significant ability to perform independent research in the fields of electron devices and a proven history of academic excellence”.

We wish to congratulate both our PIs for their recognition by the respective communities. This is only the beginning, we are sure that many other of the scientists and researchers involved in SENSOTERIC will reach great achievements.
